Determination of representative values



The ANSES/Ciqual food composition data bank is structured with two superposed levels:


· The first level contains ”initial data” i.e. data as mentioned in the original source. At this level, several values can be stored for the same pair (food; component), with different data sources and documentation, for instance data from a scientific article, a report from a research institute, data from producer X and producer Y.

· The second level contains aggregated and consolidated data, i.e. a selected value (usually the average value) and statistics (minimum and maximum values found in the initial sources, total number of samples) resulting from the aggregation of selected relevant initial data for this pair (food; component). Only consolidated data are disseminated in the food composition tables, whereas initial data are reserved for in-house use.
