The Sophia-Antipolis laboratory, with a staff of around 40, comprises two research units: the ruminant pathology unit and the bee pathology unit. It works towards improving the health of sheep, goats and bees.
It studies their main diseases and the way these are transmitted, by observing the problems in the field, and develops diagnosis tools and preventive measures.
Its research also focuses on honey contaminants and residues from pesticides or veterinary medicinal products, in order to improve the safety of produce from the hive.
As a reference laboratory for several diseases, it provides scientific and technical support to veterinary services: sampling analysis, vaccine control, supply of reference reagents, monitoring of the quality of field laboratory analyses, expert assessments of diagnosis tools on sale, etc.
The laboratory also participates in teaching and post-university practical training in biotechnology, cellular engineering and beekeeping health management.
