Niort Laboratory Diseases in goats - goat milk products
Co-funded by the Poitou-Charentes region, the Niort laboratory, with a staff of 21, studies the major goat diseases - established as well as emerging ones - and the hygiene and quality of goat milk products.
The laboratory carries out epidemiological monitoring in this region, via an autopsy and diagnosis service for breeders and vets.
Its unit for research on Retroviruses in small ruminants and caprine scrapie specialises in:
- molecular virology (study of lentiviruses in small ruminants and optimisation of diagnostic tools) - scrapie (physiopathology and epidemiology).
Its unit for research on Infectious and parasitic diseases in small ruminants focuses on:
- bacterial diseases (paratuberculosis) and milk contaminants - epidemiology and control of parasitism (cryptosporidiosis)
National Reference Laboratory
- The NRL participates in monitoring the application of French legislation for caprine arthritis-encephalitis virus (CAEV), Visna-Maedi (VM) and Enzootic Bovine Leucosis (EBL). - It provides scientific and technical advice to professional organisations
