Veterinary medicinal products : missions of Anmv The Agence nationale du médicament vétérinaire (Anmv or French Agency for Veterinary Medicinal Products) is an autonomous public scientific body with administrative capacities, created within the Centre national d'études vétérinaires et alimentaires (CNEVA or National Centre for Veterinary and Food Research) by the law of 10 February 1994 and transferred, along with CNEVA, to AFSSA in July 1998, then to ANSES in July 2010. The agency is located at Javené, near Fougères in Brittany and employs 80 people, mainly scientific managers. Its annual budget is 7 million euros. The Anmv is predominantly responsible for issuing marketing authorisations for veterinary medicines.
The Anmv's remits
Evaluation of national and European marketing authorisation dossiers for all veterinary medicines (pharmaceutical products, premixes and medicated foods, vaccines, sera, products derived from biotechnology, homeopathic medicines, etc.) Evaluation of European dossiers for maximum limits for residues of substances included in the composition of veterinary medicines intended for food-producing animals decisions relative to marketing authorisations for veterinary medicines Administrative work for the National Commission for Veterinary Medicines Authorisation of clinical trials on veterinary medicines Management of veterinary pharmacovigilance Quality control for veterinary medicines Control of advertising for veterinary medicines Coordination of inspection of veterinary pharmaceutical establishments Authorisation for the manufacture, marketing, wholesale distribution of veterinary medicines Import authorisation and export certification for veterinary medicines Preparation of technical regulatory texts
Participation in international activities relative to veterinary pharmacy
The Anmv is actively involved in the activities of the following institutions: European Medicines Agency, European Commission, World organisation for animal health (OIE), Codex Alimentarius, FAO Quality Assurance.
The Anmv has undertaken a programme to implement quality assurance for all its activities. The Quality Control unit for medicines was accredited by COFRAC (French Accreditation Committee) in September 2000.
