Research quality
Since the research that the Agency carries out fuels its monitoring, reference and expert work activities, it must meet the same quality requirements as all of the Agency's activities. This is why the Agency is running an ambitious policy in this field.

The reference standards that tje Agency takes into account for research quality are the American standard ANSI/ASQ Z1.13-1999 and European EARTO standard.
Afssa's experimental initiative undertaken for several years now involves using the quality management system ISO 17025 and a quality system for managing research projects together in laboratories and units that are already accredited by COFRAC.

PhD theses conducted in the laboratories of Maisons-Alfort (food processing and food quality), Fougères and Ploufragan are already done so in the framework of a quality management system. PhD students defend the subject matter, the results obtained and all of the measures implemented to back up their results, including the quality management system used during their work, before a jury made up of peers.
