As a food source at the heart of the debate about finding a balance between the risks and benefits, fish is both a source of healthy nutrients (Omega 3, vitamin D, iodine, etc.) and risks due to the presence of contaminants. Afssa's role is to protect consumer safety through its recommendations by ensuring that the overall benefits always outweigh the potential or proven risks. An educational trail guides you through these issues in detail and gives you an insight into the various stages of the Agency's work, culminating in a collective risk assessment.
